Marnie Hall – Violin

Marnie has been performing and teaching violin in the Boston area for over 15 years. After growing up in the Boston music community and often traveling with her parents for National Company tours such as The Pirates of Penzance, Les Miserables and 42nd St, Marnie began her own career at the age of 17.

 

After attending the Tanglewood Institute in 1994, Marnie began a degree in violin performance at Indiana University, Bloomington, while also performing with the Terre Haute Symphony and IU Opera Theater. A year later she returned to Boston to study in the studios of Clayton Hoener and Laura Park, and began receiving violin work with many well-known Boston ensembles.

 

Marnie is a former faculty member of the Suzuki School of Newton, Brookline Music School and The New School of Music in Cambridge, MA and the Real School. Marnie received formal teacher training in the Suzuki Violin Method at the American Suzuki institute in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, as well as the Hartt school of Music, and has specialized in teaching pre-school and elementary-aged students for over 15 years.

 

Performance-wise, her very favorite work has included studio recordings, composing and string-arranging for many local songwriters and rock bands, including solo & string quartet work with Boston rock icon & longtime friend Rick Berlin, the Liz Borden Band, Robin Lane and the Chartbusters, Asa Brebner, Pat Wallace, Niki Luparelli, John Surette, as well as her own band Le Mistral, which she formed in 2010 with Boston producer Dave Westner and mandolin great Jimmy Ryan. She has also enjoyed playing in various pick-up orchestras with such artists as The Moody Blues, Brian Wilson, Joni Mitchell, The Irish Tenors, Eileen Ivers, kd lang, Regina Carter, Yo-Yo Ma, Johnny Mathis and others. Marnie has performed throughout the US, as well as Finland, Sweden, Greece, Japan, Korea and Ireland. She lives with her two children, ages 12 and 6,  in the suburbs of Boston.
