Bands at MMM!

In past years MMM has coordinated rehearsals among our students in the spring only just for our annual concert. That experience was so rewarding and fun and the bands sounded so great that we have decided to run a band program year round.

Brad Alderman (Berklee graduate) currently runs the program. He sets up bands that rehearse for an hour and 15 minutes on Sundays for 6-8 week semesters and then records the final product. Brad is present at each rehearsal giving his advice and sharing his expertise. Each participant receives his or her own copy of the recording once it is mixed down. Come spring the participants will also have the opportunity to perform live at our annual concert.

The musical interests of those participating have determined the styles of the bands formed. Rock, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Metal, Pop, Whatever; it is all possible. Band sizes have ranged from the small power trio to a larger 7 piece. Songwriters have also participated and had their bands learn their original songs. Bottom line, the possibilities are endless so no potential participant should be hesitant to inquire.

The 6-8 week semester Sunday program runs through the entire school year and we try to fit them between major holidays and school vacations. Even if we are mid-semester we are always planning on the next so it is never a bad time to inquire. We are still planning out exactly how we will structure our summer 2008 band program but we will likely be able to offer more intense programs that will meet more often
and with longer rehearsals over a shorter span of time. Look for more information
on that program here as the summer gets closer.

All students or all ages, all levels, all instruments are welcome. It is important to us that participants are also taking private lessons (some exceptions could be made for advanced students) but do not necessarily need to be taking lessons at MMM. To sign up please email or call as. We need to know your age, what instrument(s) you play, a description of what level you are at, what your musical tastes are, if there are any other specific players you would like to be grouped with, and what your availability is on Sundays.

6 week semesters cost $150, 7 week $175 and 8 week $200. There are no refunds for missed rehearsals. Payment is due before or at the first rehearsal. Attendance is required for the final recording session.
